IRL Events was founded by Dan Barbier and Greg Neher in September of 2010. We are a company dedicated to promoting, assisting, fostering and creating social events for nerds, geeks, dorks, and all forms of poindexterity in the GVRD. We believe that Vancouver is an awesome city with lots of awesome stuff happening, but too often these events go unnoticed. To help prevent this, we have created this website to act as a listing calendar for all manner of geek events, regardless of specific genre or who is organizing them. Our goal is to make sure that no geek is ever bored.

On top of promoting and in many cases assisting all geek events in Vancouver, we also produce several events ourselves:

Kotatsu
An event that combines a typical anime convention and a display of Japanese culture, set to the theme of a traditional Japanese festival. It includes anime screenings, cultural demonstrations and workshops, fan based panels and more! This event will take place in early winter 2012.

LANcouver
A three-day gaming event held in late spring. It includes PC based LAN gaming, console based video gaming, and table top based card and board gaming. It also includes miniature based gaming such as Warhammer. LANcouver is produced in association with Lower MainLAN group.

Cos & Effect
A costume, cosplay, and alternative fashion event, held midsummer. It features costume and skit contests, fashion shows, panels, dealers, artists, and a masquerade dance.

Cloud City Comic Con
This is a brand new convention coming to Vancouver in the fall of 2012. It features artists, exhibitors, workshops, crafts, contests, models, and much more!

IRL Events is a Vancouver-based special event production and promotion company. We specialize in geek-themed content, which covers anything comic, video game, animation, science-fiction, technology, or programming related, and can include costumes, art, anime, music and more.

Whether you’re looking for a dinner party for your IT Department of 10, a costume party game launch for 1000 fans, or a full blown comic convention for 20,000 or more, we’ve got you covered. We’ll help you take your event from its first conception, to actualization.

We also offer promotion services for groups that already have their event in hand, but could use some help getting the word out. We can help you build your promotion strategy, help you execute it, and ensure it reaches your target demographic.

Finally, we have an ever-growing infrastructure of equipment available to rent to events. Our rates scale to your event, not to the cost of the equipment, and often we charge very much under typical market value, because we’re interested in your event succeeding.
